MANDODARI , A Mute Spectator

Mandodara is a noble and chaste lady . She is the first and foremost wife of Paulasthya RaavaNa Brahma (Patta Mahishi) . Whatever may be the deeds of Her husband , Mandodari never interfered and always remained a loyal wife as a silent spectator but when RaavaNa abducted Seetha Maatha , Mandodari could no longer remain unconcerned and along with VibheeshaNa and KumbhakarNa , She also tried Her best to counsel RaavaNa and pleaded with him to return Seetha Maatha and seek refuge in Sri Raama , but for no avial. She begged and beseeched RaavaNa to realize his folly and had to suffer the loss of Her sons , Akshaya Kumar at the hands of Hanuman and Meghanaath Indradyumna at the hands of LakshmaNa and ultimately see even RaavaNa being killed by Raama. But Mandodari was given a boon ; as long as one's funeral pyre is burning a Lady cannot be considered a widow and it was decreed that RaavaNa's funeral pyre shall never be extinguished and always keeps burning and hence Devi Mandodari can never become a widow.
